Description: Despite its intimidating appearance, the Cane Corso is one of the perfect family dogs. Bred for its impeccable strength, the extremely loyal Corso is an excellent guard dog that is especially drawn to children. Even with the Corso’s massiveness, it is extremely gentle around children, as if it knows how vulnerable they are. This breed must be socialized at a young age around other dogs, animals and people to prevent any dominance issues or aggressiveness (you don’t want to have to try to hold back a Corso chasing a cat!). They are naturally dominant dogs and will never back down from a challenge. Teaching him basic commands at a young age will also help with being an obediant part of the family. Corsos are very reserved around new people or strangers, standing their ground until they are comfortable. It may take a while before a Corso warms up to someone new. They love to be included in family outings, and because of their athleticism, long walks, jogs and hikes are just fine with them. The more adventurous your activities are, the better. The Cane Corso, known as a great guard dog, is also an extremely smart breed so don’t be surprised if you see them winning CKC titles in obedience and agility, as well as, weight pulling or personal protection!
